Hola muchachos,

This will be our final project-based activity/assessment this semester. The assignment is simple: create a birthday party invitation and guest list in Spanish. You can make the invitation about your birthday, a family member's birthday (like for your younger brother), or if you want, it can be for your future quinceañera(!!) You may create it using Canva, Google Slides, or you can make it by hand on paper.

(Girls: If you choose to make your invitation about your quinceañera, remember that this is a special cultural tradition in many Spanish-speaking countries. It's a very meaningful event for girls and their families. Take the chance to imagine what your quinceañera might look like. What kind of dress would you wear? Who would your damas and chambelanes be? What would your decorations be?It’s a great way to put yourself in the shoes (literally!) of your Latin American peers.

Instructions

Your invitation must be completely in Spanish. All of the information below needs to be in Spanish and include:
- Invitados – Who is invited (family or friends, you can make a guest list on the same invitation or on another page). Relationships should all be in Spanish:
Mi madre: Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo
- Comida – What food will be at the party (provide images if that helps)
- Actividades – What people will do (dancing, presents, activities)
- Música – What music or playlist will be used
- Fecha, hora y lugar – The date, time, and place of the party

Checklist

Your assignment is ready to turn in when it includes:

  • [ ] All your invitation and guest list is written in Spanish
  • [ ] Guest list includes names and relationships (e.g., Mi madre: Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo)
  • [ ] Comida, actividades, música (playlist or music styles)
  • [ ] Fecha, hora y lugar (date, time, and place)
  • [ ] Spanish is clear and not copied or machine translated
  • [ ] Invitation is neat, organized, and easy to read

Rúbrica del Proyecto – Invitación de Cumpleaños

1 – En proceso 2 – Casi listo 3 – ¡Buen trabajo! Contenido Missing or unclear: guests, food, activities, or details like date and place, or other content. Includes most required information (guests, food, activities, music, date, place), but some are vague or unclear. All required parts are included and clearly communicated with relevant details. Idioma In English, copied (plagiarized) text, or confusing Spanish. Generally clear Spanish. Short sentences. Maybe some errors that affect meaning. Spanish is mostly accurate and easy to understand. Uses words, pharses and sentences and communicates meaning clearly. Presentación Sloppy or hard to follow. Text may be disorganized or confusing. Basic layout and readable. Some visual elements or structure. Clear, well-organized, and visually appealing. Easy to read and understand.

Instructions:

Create your own advertisement for school supplies from a Spanish-speaking country using PowerPoint, Word, Canva, or another creative tool.

Before You Begin:

Search for example ads using terms like “publicidad de útiles escolares” or “anuncio de útiles escolares” to get ideas. Add specific countries to your search for more ideas. (Super tip: We've reviewed some schools in different parts of Latin America. You could look up a city and view schools in the area with Google/Bing/Apple maps. You could even look up their required school supplies lists, and add this information to your ad!)

Requirements:

Choose a city and country where people can get these school supplies. Use local currency for your prices (Mexico: pesos, Peru: soles, Spain: euros, etc.). Include at least 5 images of school supplies that are culturally appropriate based on what we’ve read in class. Each item must be labeled in Spanish with the name and a short description. Use the local word for an item if you can find examples. We've seen specific examples from Perú, like plumón for marcador. www.wordreference.com is a great resources for seeing what words are used in different countries.)

Here's an example
- Top of ad - name of the store and city, country: La Baratísima – Barcelona, España

- Image: (Image of a nice notebook)
- Label: Cuaderno

- Price: 3,18€

- Description: Tenemos cuaderno de anillas. or ¡Tenemos cuadernos para todas tus clases!

Make it visually appealing and persuasive—would someone want to buy from your ad?

Submit Finished Ad to Schoology:

Upload a screenshot or the file itself. Do not submit a link. Links may not work if I don’t have access to your online account.

How to take a screenshot on a Chromebook:
- Full screen: Ctrl + Show Windows (this is the key with a rectangle and two lines)

- Select an area: Ctrl + Shift + Show Windows

- If that doesn't work, troubleshoot with search: "how to take a screenshot on a Chromebook"

Rubric

1 – Needs Improvement 2 – Meets Minimum Requirements 3 – Exceeds Requirements Content Missing or inaccurate location, currency, or fewer than 5 images. Items are not clearly tied to school or culture. Includes city, country, and currency. Relevant images and descriptions. Accurate and culturally appropriate location and currency. 5+ great images / art that reflect school culture of the country you choose. Language Labels or descriptions are missing, plagiarized, completely incorrect, or not in Spanish. Each item has a basic label and short Spanish description. Some errors that make it hard to understand. Each item has a clear Spanish label and short, appropriate description. Some errors are OK if they do not interfere with meaning. Presentation Ad is messy, hard to read, or not part of assignment. Minimal effort. Clear layout, basic design and readable text. Well-designed and persuasive. Makes people want to buy from your ad! Creative!
