Note: Affirmative Commands

In Spanish, when you want to give a simple commands (mandatos) to someone you are talking to directly (using "tú"), use the 3rd person singular present tense form of the verb. Here’s how it works:

• To tell someone to speak: hablar + él = "habla". This is also the affirmative command form. "Speak! = ¡Habla!"

• The verb tomar (to take) in the 3rd person singular present tense is toma ("ella toma" or "él toma" means "she takes" or "he takes"). So, toma means "take!" as in "Toma la segunda calle a la izquierda" (Take the second street on the left).

• Girar (to turn) becomes gira ("ella gira" or "él gira"). So, the command "Gira a la derecha" means "Turn right".

• For seguir (to continue), sigue ("ella sigue" or "él sigue"). The command "Sigue recto" translates to "Go straight".
