En las montañas del norte de Nicaragua hace frío en el invierno, pero no tanto como en los Estados Unidos. En ninguna parte del territorio nicaragüense nieva, y no existen montañas con nieve. El invierno abarca de mayo a octubre, y el verano, de noviembre a abril. La época de lluvias se extiende de junio a noviembre, por eso la gente suele llamar a esta época de lluvias nuestro “invierno”. Aquí, en invierno, llueve mucho.
El clima de este país cambia mucho de una costa a otra. De hecho, se pueden establecer tres tipos de clima en el país según la región. La zona situada entre los lagos Nicaragua y Managua y el océano Pacífico suele ser muy seca, con poca lluvia y temperaturas que oscilan entre los 27 °C y 32 °C en invierno y los 30 °C y 35 °C durante el verano. La zona central y montañosa de Nicaragua tiene un clima más frío y húmedo, sobre todo en el este. En la costa caribeña, el clima es muy húmedo y tropical, con altas temperaturas y fuertes precipitaciones.
