Diagrama de Venn - Mi familia y yo

What Is a Venn Diagram?

A Venn Diagram uses overlapping circles to compare things.

  • The overlapping area shows how you are the same.
  • The separate areas show how you are different.
  • We will search for some examples online in class.

Instructions

Create a Venn Diagram to show how you and a family member are similar and different.

1. Choose How You Will Create Your Venn Diagram

You can use Canva, PowerPoint, or draw it on paper.

  • Canva:
    • Go to www.canva.com.
    • Click "Log in with Google" and use your school email.
    • Search for "Venn Diagram" and pick a template you like.
  • PowerPoint:
    • Open a new slide and draw two overlapping circles.
  • Paper:
    • Draw two overlapping circles by hand. (A lot of people have those big Stanley cups. Those would work well for the template.)

2. Title Your Diagram

Add a title at the top in Spanish.

Example:

  • "Mi hermano menor y yo"

3. Label the Circles

  • One circle is you. (Label it with yo or your name)
  • The other circle is your family member. Use the relationship term in Spanish like, "mi tía" or "mi abuelo".

4. Fill In the Diagram

Similarities (Overlapping Area)

  • Physical Traits: What do you both look like?
    • Hair color, eye color, height, etc.
  • Personality Traits: How are you both alike?
    • Funny, shy, friendly, etc.
  • Interests: What do you like that your family member doesn't like?
    • Use "nos gusta + verb" or "nos gustan + plural noun".
    • Examples:
    • "Nos gusta bailar." (We like to dance.)
    • "Nos gustan los perros." (We like dogs.)
  • Activities at Home: What do you both do at home?
    • Include responsibilities using "tener que + verb".
    • Example:
    • "Tenemos que limpiar la casa." (We have to clean the house.)

Differences (Separate Areas)

  • Physical Traits: How do you look different?
  • Personality Traits: How are you different?
  • Interests: What do you like that they don't?
    • Use "me gusta + verb" for you and "le gusta + verb" for them.
    • Examples:
    • "Me gusta leer." (I like to read.)
    • "A mi hermano le gusta jugar fútbol." (My brother likes to play soccer.)
  • Activities at Home: What do you do that they don't?
    • Include responsibilities using "tener que + verb".
    • Examples:
    • "Tengo que lavar los platos." (I have to wash the dishes.)
    • "Mi hermana tiene que lavar su ropa." (My sister has to wash her clothes.)
    • "Mi hermano tiene que sacar la basura." (My brother has to take out the trash.)

5. Make It Look Nice

  • Use nice colors and fonts.
  • Add pictures if you want.
  • Make sure it's easy to read (legible!)

6. Review and Submit

  • Check for mistakes.
  • Submit your Venn Diagram:
    • If you used Canva or PowerPoint:
    • Email me the image or the link. (Make sure I can view the link. Check it with another browser.).
    • If you used paper:
    • Turn in your diagram to me.

Extra Credit

  • Compare yourself to two family members.
  • Use a Venn Diagram with three circles.
  • Show what all three of you have in common in the center.
