Every reflexive infinitive verb has a "se" at the end of the verb. For example, in "levantarse" (to get up), "levantar" is the verb, and "se" shows us it's reflexive.
When you use the verb, you change "se" to match who is doing the action:
Example: for "levantarse," take "levantar" and change it depending on who is doing the action:
- Yo me levanto
- Tú te levantas
- Él / ella / Ud. se levanta
- Nosotros / nosotras nos levantamos
- Ellos / ellas / Uds. se levantan
(Vosotros/vosotras would be "os levantáis" but we do not us it in this class.)
The verb despertarse means "to wake up".
There are a couple of things going on here. First, "despertarse" is a reflexive verb, so we need to add that reflexive marker to the front of the verb like we saw above. Next, we need to conjugate the verb AND "despertar" is an e -> ie stem-change verb. That means, instead of "yo me desperto", it should be "yo me despierto."
I wake up at 5:00 AM. = Me despierto a las cinco de la mañana.
