Assignment: Create a menu from a (soon to be!) famous restaurant

For this assignment, you're going to design a menu for your own restaurant. The restaurant will need to be in the Spanish-speaking world. All the text is in Spanish (apart from proper nouns).

Instructions:

# Description
1. Choose a Region or Country Select a Spanish-speaking region or country that interests you. Find typical dishes and drinks from that region and make a list of the ones that you like. Be sure to write down the ingredients because you will include them with the dishes. Be sure the country, city or region is provided somewhere on the menu. Adding the flag or another topical image would be nice as well.
2. Name Your Restaurant Think of a creative name for your restaurant that reflects the regional influence and the type of food you will feature. It can be a play on words, or part of your name plus the region name, etc.
3. Design the Menu Create an attractive layout for your menu. Include the following sections: - Entrantes (Appetizers): List at least three appetizers with descriptions. - Platos principales (Main Dishes): Include at least three main dishes that are popular in your chosen region. - Bebidas (Drinks): Offer a selection of beverages typical to the region. (We're looking for non-alcoholic drinks for this assignment.) - Postres (Desserts): Give at least two traditional desserts. Again, the minimum requirements for items on the menu are tres (3) entrantes, tres (3) platos principales, varias (2+) bebidas típicas, dos (2) postres.
4. Provide the Ingredients Beneath each food / drink, provide the main ingredientes in Spanish. For example, beneath the famous Nicaraguan "nacatamal" you would see the description, "masa de maíz, verduras, arroz y carne de cerdo en una hoja de plátano."
5. Add Prices Set and provide the precios (prices) for each item in the local currency of the region or country you have selected. Research the typical cost of meals to make your pricing realistic. Google and Tripadvisor often have menus of famous restaurants that you can use as examples.
6. Turn it in! Submit a photo of your menu to the assignment on Schoology. You will also turn in the physical copy after you submit the assignment to Schoology. Your Schoology submission is your receipt that the assignment has been submitted. Again, you will submit an image of your physical menu to the assignment on Schoology, then hand in the physical copy.

Assignment Rubric

Criteria Excellent (5 points) Good (3-4 points) Needs Improvement (1-2 points) Unacceptable (0 points)
Country or Region and Presentation The menu clearly identifies a Spanish-speaking country or region with authentic dishes and drinks. Includes cultural symbols like the flag or images that enhance the theme. The menu identifies a country or region with some cultural symbols, but they might not enhance the theme as strongly. The country or region is mentioned, but with minimal or no authentic cultural symbols. No country or region is mentioned, or the section is missing.
Creative Name of Restaurant The restaurant name is highly creative, culturally relevant, engaging, and related to the type of food or region. The restaurant name is creative and somewhat culturally relevant. The name lacks creativity or cultural relevance. The restaurant name is missing or clearly copied from another source.
Menu Design and Layout The menu is attractively designed with a clear, organized layout including all required sections: entrantes, platos principales, bebidas, and postres. All text is in Spanish. The menu is well-designed with most sections clearly presented. Some minor issues in layout or organization. The menu layout is cluttered or incomplete, and may have missing sections. No menu is submitted or the design is clearly plagiarized.
Menu Elements and Descriptions The menu exceeds minimum requirements with creative and culturally authentic descriptions for each item listed under entrantes, platos principales, bebidas, and postres. The menu meets minimum requirements but the descriptions are less detailed or lack some creativity. The menu fails to meet the minimum number of items or the descriptions are inadequate. No items or descriptions provided or they are copied from an external source.
Ingredients for Each Dish Ingredients are accurately and completely listed in Spanish for each item, enhancing understanding of the dish and its cultural context. Ingredients are listed for each item, but some may not be in Spanish or lack detail. Ingredients for several items are missing, incorrect, or not listed in Spanish. Ingredients are not provided, or it's clear the list is copied from an existing source without modification.
Pricing in Local Currency All items on the menu are priced accurately in the local currency, reflecting realistic costs as researched from sources like Google or TripAdvisor. Most items are priced in local currency with mostly realistic costs, but some prices may not be well researched. Many items are missing prices or the currency used is incorrect. Prices are not provided or are clearly unrealistic or copied directly from a source without adaptation.
Submission Format The menu is submitted on time both as a high-quality image on Schoology and as a well-prepared physical copy. Update: Only physical copy required The menu is submitted on time on Schoology and as a physical copy, but one of the formats may have minor issues in quality or timeliness. Update: Only physical copy required (-20) The menu is late, or the submission in one of the formats is missing or poor quality. No submission is made or the work is clearly plagiarized, including use of images or text directly copied without credit.
